What is Microsoft Excel ?

Excel is a spreadsheet that was developed by Microsoft for all major operating systems. It contains calculations, graphing tools, pivot tables and macro programming called Visual Basic for Application. Current Excel Version is Excel 2016 along with Excel 365. 

What is the IF function?

The IF function is used to conduct a logic test in your spreadsheet. It will check to see if the conditions of the formula is true or false. If it is true, then a result will show. If is is false, then the result will be different from the true result. 

School Grade Example: =IF(A1>75, “Pass”, “Fail”)

It states-If the grade in cell A1 is higher than 75 then input Pass if false then input Fail. 

How can I lock columns or rows?

This function is called freezing panes. You go to the view tab on the top ribbon. In the window grouping you click on the icon that says freeze panes. You have the choice to freeze selected area, top row and first column. If you choose to freeze a pane it will allow you keep certain rows and columns visible while you scroll through the rest of your spreadsheet. 

Why do you use LookUp Function?

The purpose of a lookup function in Microsoft Excel is to input information that can be found on another table in the workbook. If you have a spreadsheet and you are looking to input student information and number, you can use LookUp to help. Using a table your have of Student information, you can tell Excel to look up the student number and input the name that matches that student number into a selected cell. 

What is the benefit of a Table instead of a Range?

A table allows more automated offerings than in a range of cells. When a formula is placed in the beginning cell of a table it will automatically auto fill through out the rest of the column using the same information. A table also uses the tab key at the end of each row to automatically start a new row. 

Why use Excel?

Microsoft Excel provides an application where data can be  imputed and presented. You are able to create a story through the data found in a table. It creates a document that can be shared with others and communicate the same story using analytical data.
